ATLAS's dial pattern - an exquisite formation of iron crystalline structure that is unique to iron meteorites - is known as the Widmanstätten pattern. Believed to have impacted the earth over one million years ago, this meteorite was first discovered in Sweden, near the Artic circle in 1906. It is one of the oldest known meteorites. The Widmanstättenpattern naturally formed as specific iron alloy slowly cooled under extreme pressure over millions - if not billions - of years. Though Muonionalusta’s age and origin are unknown, it is believed to be more than four billion years old. It was once part of a planet, or planetoid, iron-core until it experienced a cosmic event around 400 million years ago; long before it impacted the earth. ATLAS features a blued meteorite stone dial with several crystallized – almost three-dimensional layers – each of which gives a metallic sheen and an absolutely fantastic play of light that is difficult to capture in images. The case is coated with a unique DLC coating – also known as “Diamond Like Carbon.” With DLC coating the watch, the carbon is used to achieve a diamond-like layer. Like diamonds, a DLC coating is harder than raw steel, making it extremely durable and much more protective and harder than other, lesser coatings. The indices, hands, and bezel markers on ATLAS are filled with luminescent BGW9 from Swiss Super-LumiNova®, which glows in the dark after a day in the sun.Henry Archer believes that scratch-resistant sapphire crystal is one of the hallmarks of a quality watch. That’s why you will find sapphire crystal on both the front and back of the watch. The front crystal is slightly curved and features six layers of anti-reflective coating, giving a clear view of the dial. Nordlys Meteorite comes with a Shadow Black FKM rubber strap with engraved, black buckle. ATLAS was a limited edition of 30 numbered watches.
